The West Iredell Fire Department, along with the Stony Point and Monticello fire departments and Iredell County Rescue Squad, were alerted for a report of a structure fire in the vicinity of Lippard Farm Road and Happy Acres Drive about 4:09 a.m. Tuesday.

The first units arriving on scene transmitted a working fire for a fully involved structure that was believed to be abandoned. Departments were retoned to increase firefighting capacity at the scene, and Trinity and Statesville fire departments and Iredell County EMS were also added to the alarm.

Firefighters stretched two hose lines and began attacking the blaze in an exterior operation. The fire was so intense that nearby trees and shrubs also caught fire.

Firefighters placed the fire under control at 4:55 a.m. Crews remained on the scene for several more hours, overhauling the structure and extinguishing any hot spots.

West Iredell Fire Department Chief Jerry Houston was in command of the operation.

No injuries were reported. The Iredell County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
