A Statesville man faces multiple felony charges in connection with the possession of child sexual abuse material following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Nicholas Allen Salkill, 22, of Brookfield Drive, Statesville, in a news release on Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation on September 2 after receiving information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children related to three files containing child sexual abuse material, Campbell said. The case was assigned to Special Victims Unit Detective Lane.
During the investigation, Detective Lane identified Salkill as the suspect and learned he was possibly using the social media platform Discord for the purposes of downloading child sexual abuse material, according to the news release. Detective Lane obtained a search warrant for the Salkill’s social media account and obtained evidence pertinent to the investigation, Campbell said.
Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, Detective Lane obtained an arrest warrant charging Salkill with three counts of felony second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of felony third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Salkill was located and arrested by ICSO deputies on October 14. He was issued a $100,000 secured bond by Magistrate Nicholson.
The investigation is ongoing. Additional charges are pending further investigation, Campbell said.
