The Iredell County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of a structure fire that claimed the life of a western Iredell County resident.

West Iredell Fire Department personnel, along with members of the Stony Point, Troutman, Monticello, Catawba fire departments, Iredell County EMS and Rescue Squad were dispatched to a report of a structure fire with a person with disabilities trapped inside on Sharon School Road about 2:34 p.m. Monday. Arriving units transmitted a working fire for a heavily involved structure.

Firefighters pulled a person from the structure, but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The deceased individuals name was not released. The fire was placed under control at 3:40 p.m. Sharon School Road was closed in both directions as crews established a water supply to battle the blaze.
