Rickey Young

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Rickey Eugene Young, 60, of Abernathy Avenue, Statesville, in a news release.

The Sheriff’s Office received a report about the theft of electrical wiring from a construction site in eastern Iredell County on October 23. The stolen wiring was valued at more than $700, Campbell said.

The case was assigned to Detective Zalepka with the Criminal Investigations Division. During the investigation, Detective Zalepka learned that Young had sold a large quantity of electrical wiring to L. Gordon’s Iron & Metal the day after the theft was reported, according to the news release.

After confirming that the wiring sold by Young matched the stolen materials, Detective Zalepka obtained warrants charging Young with felony obtaining property by false pretense and misdemeanor larceny, Campbell said.

ICSO deputies located and arrested Young on October 31. At the time of his arrest, Young was out on bond for an unrelated unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charge. He was initially held at the Iredell County Detention Center with no bond.

After appearing before District Court Judge T.R. Young, Young received a $20,000 secured bond for the new charges.

According to the ICSO, Young’s criminal history includes the following charges: misdemeanor resisting a public officer, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, felony larceny, felony larceny after breaking and entering, and two counts of felony obtaining property by false pretense.
