Glenda M. Waugh, 83, passed away on November, 12, 2025. She was born November 17, 1941, to Lillie Barkley Waugh and Ray Robert Waugh of Mooresville, N.C.

An honor graduate of Mooresville Senior High School, Class of 1960, Miss Waugh continued her education at Greensboro College, graduated magna cum laude in 1964, and was listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, 1963-64.

She began her teaching career in the West Mecklenburg area of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. She taught ninth grade at Wilson Junior High from 1964 to 1983, when she moved to West Mecklenburg High School and continued to teach ninth grade until she retired from teaching in 1995. Although she traveled extensively, she loved the N.C. mountains; and after her retirement, she spent six months of each year in Blowing Rock, N.C.

Miss Waugh dedicated 31 years to students in the West Mecklenburg area, treating them as if they were her family. She always said that it was her best decision to remain in that community because she enjoyed the students and their families so much and because she had the privilege of teaching the parents and the children. Glenda was always appreciative of their care and support through all the years.

As she was respectfully and fondly called by her students, Miss Waugh stayed in touch with them, celebrating their successes and lifting them up when they had difficult moments; and throughout her life, her students also kept in touch with her.

Miss Waugh will be buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock, N.C., next to her fiancé, Mr. David Blalock. At her request, no service will be held. “The bell rang.”

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the family of Miss Waugh. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
