Vickie Sue Lackey, 74, of Hiddenite, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. She was born May 21, 1951, in Buncombe County, the daughter of Sue Clayton Edwards and the late John Woodrow Edwards.

Vickie was a truck driver for most of her working career and attended Tabernacle Baptist Church in Stony Point. She loved to fish, ride the motorcycle, horseback riding, and camping. She also enjoyed cooking and had an unconditional love for her best fury friend, “Trund.”

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Woody Edwards and Graham Edwards.

Along with her mother, those left to cherish and honor Vickie’s memories include her husband, Byron Lackey of the home; her daughter, Ashlee Lackey Patterson (Nathan) of Taylorsville; her sons, Shaun Lackey (Kari) of Hiddenite, Wesley Lackey (Courtney) of Taylorsville, and Kyle Lackey (Kendra) of Hiddenite; her grandchildren, Colt and Sage Lackey, Crew and Elle Lackey, Kyler, Kenden, and Konnor Lackey, Mason Childers, Laney Patterson, and Emberlynn Patterson; her sister-in-law, Brenda Edwards; her nieces, Amy Herron and Woodeane Edwards; and a number of other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Tabernacle Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Wes Hammer officiating.
