
Peggy Joyce Smith Stafford, 92, passed away on December 13, 2025, after a brief illness.
Peggy was born on October 29, 1933, and raised in Mooresville, N.C. She graduated from Brawley High School and started work the following day at Burlington Industries. She was a textile grader and retired after 44 years. She was a lifelong member of McKendree Chapel United Methodist Church and later Rocky Mount Church.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Stafford; her parents, Raymond and Hattie Mae Smith; and her brothers, Glenn Smith, Bill Smith and Larry Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Parker (Glen), Janet Cothron (Randall) and Joyce Farthing (Trae); grandchildren, Ashley Crews, Brad Parker (Teresa), Lindsay Parker Gustin (Scott), Tiffany Farthing Penley (Adam), A.J. Farthing (Jordan), Grant Cothron, Seth Farthing (Morgan) and Reed Cothron; great grandchildren, Will and Grace Parker, Jacob and Kara Gustin, Lincoln and Addie Mae Penley, Grayson and Thomas Farthing, and Finley Farthing.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 15, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, at Cavin-Cook Chapel with her grandson, Pastor A.J. Farthing, officiating. Burial will follow the service at Iredell Memorial Park.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Billy Miller, her driver and dear friend, who treated her like a queen for the last six years; her numerous family and friends who have always showed up for her; and the staff of Gordon Hospice House, who treated us with care and compassion to make the end of her life peaceful and comfortable.
