Abner Lamar Inscoe, 84, of Statesville, N.C., died Friday, December 5, 2025, at Iredell Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Lamar was born in Oxford, N.C., on July 29, 1941, the son of the late Abner Young Inscoe and Laura Estelle Thompson Inscoe. He spent most of his life in Stony Point, N.C., but called downtown Statesville home for the last 20 years. Lamar enjoyed making his rounds about town on a vintage bicycle, a scooter or on foot and enjoyed talking and joking with everyone.

Earlier in life he worked in hospital maintenance and recycling with his father – collecting countless tons of metal, pallets and cardboard to be reused.

Lamar’s son, Derrick (Preston) of Statesville, and daughter, Jewel of Elkin, survive. He was preceded in death by daughters Tammy Edwards (David) and Amanda Inscoe. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Ashton Eidam, David Lee Edwards, Brantly Minton, Frankie Swicegood, Skyler Wilkinson, April Edwards, and Hunter Wilkinson; and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brother Danny Inscoe and sister Mavis Floyd. Lamar’s brother Wallace preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 16, at The Upper Room in downtown Statesville.
