Sharon “Sherry” Sue Schutt, 79, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Christmas morning, December 25, 2025, of natural causes.
Sherry was born on June 3, 1946, and raised in Schenectady, N.Y., by Albert and Marion Aldinger. Those who knew her will remember her as thoughtful, kind, and guided by faith.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Schutt, his wife, Angie, and their three sons, Andrew (Drew) Schutt, Kyle Schutt, and David Schutt; and by her daughter, Wendy Warner, her husband Eric, and their children, Jack Warner, and Thomas (Tommy) Warner, and granddaughter, Parker Warner. Sherry was a proud and devoted mother and grandmother, and her family was the center of her life.
Later in life, Sherry became a special education teacher in Monroe County, N.Y., and later in Iredell County, N.C., a role she valued deeply. She cared about helping others, especially children, and was known for her patience, compassion, and steady presence. Her close local friends shared her love of teaching and her genuine desire to support those around her.
Sherry loved history and learning, and her faith remained constant throughout her life. Some of her family’s fondest memories are of summers spent at the Sacandaga Reservoir in New York filled with days on the lake, games, and evenings roasting marshmallows by the fire. Sherry had been a camp counselor in her youth and enjoyed camp life, a love of the lake that carried forward to her children.
Sherry especially loved Christmas. She delighted in decorations, baking, and holiday traditions, often beginning her Christmas baking more than a month before the big day. Her family will continue her cherished tradition of Christmas cookies and Christmas bingo in her memory.
In accordance with her wishes, Sherry will be cremated and no services will be held. Her children will honor her request by using her ashes in the planting of a Rose of Sharon.
The family invites friends and loved ones to share memories and messages of remembrance on the online guestbook at www.cavin-cook.com.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Schutt family.
