James “Jimmy” Bumgarner, 81, of Taylorsville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Carolina Caring in Newton, N.C. He was born June 2, 1944, in Alexander County, the son of the late Edgar Bumgarner and Wave Swaney Bumgarner.

Jimmy proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He was a sawmiller and also worked for American Roller Bearing for several years. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He volunteered at the food pantry for a number of years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Bumgarner; six sisters and five brothers.

Those left to cherish and honor Jimmy’s memories include his children, Terry Houston (Denise), Randy Houston (Robin), Roger Houston (Lori), and Angela and Carl Spears; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a special niece that loved him dearly that was also his caregiver; his sister, Connie Campbell (Bobby); his brother, Delmer Bumgarner (Helen); and a number of other relatives.

A family-led service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, in the Lebanon Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
