
Melissa “Moe” Daniels Byrd, 60, of Taylorsville, N.C., passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. She was born January 28, 1965, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late Bobby Daniels and Colleen Richards Daniels.
Melissa worked in retail for over 20 years, also for Alexander County Schools in the cafeteria for 20 years and then Taylorsville Savings Bank as a teller before coming disabled. She was a member of Oxford Memorial Baptist Church, which she joined in 1976. She loved to read and traveling to the beach and mountains. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved spending time with the Thursday night girls.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Jolly.
Those left to cherish and honor Melissa’s memories include her husband of 35 years, Dennis Byrd of the home; her daughters, Sarah Watson (James), Lauren Minton (Bradley), Haley Dyson (Clyde), all of Taylorsville; her son, David Byrd (Mary) of Taylorsville; her grandchildren, Nathaniel and Tavia Denny, John-Luke and Jeremiah Watson, Elin and Allie Minton, Ellie and Ehud Dyson; her sister, Debbie Teague of Taylorsville; her best friend, Barbara Teague; special cousins, Dale and Kathy Hull; brothers-in-law, Freddy Norris of Tennessee and Mike Jolly; sisters-in-law, Joann Walker (Charles) and Georgia Breedlove; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Adams Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Oxford Memorial Baptist Church. Pastor Neal Walker will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers include Joey Norris, Nathaniel Denny, Andrew Bresch, Alan-Michael Bresch, Michael Millsaps, and Samurel Benfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sugar Loaf Elementary Benevolence Fund (for Unpaid Lunch or Snack Charges for children dear to her heart), 3600 NC Hwy 16 N, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
