The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a break-in and theft that occurred at a home that was owned by late NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, who died in a plane crash last month.
Sheriff Darren Campbell said the ICSO received a report on January 8 about a break-in at the home at 319 Dooley Road near Mooresville. The crime was reported by a relative of Biffle’s wife, who also died in the crash, and Biffle’s niece.
About $30,000 in cash, a backpack, NASCAR memorabilia and possibly two firearms were stolen, according to the Sheriff’s Office report.
There was evidence of forced entry on the second floor of the house and the perpetrator gained access to a safe inside the home, Campbell said.
Investigators are reviewing digital evidence from the home’s security camera, canvassing the neighborhood for possible witnesses and attempting to view security system footage from other homes in the area, the sheriff added.
Biffle, his wife Cristina, his two children and two others were killed when a plane owned by Biffle crashed shortly after take-off at Statesville Regional Airport on December 18. The FAA is investigating the plane crash.
