Mertha Braswell Biddy, 94, of Taylorsville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at her home. She was born June 22, 1931, in Caldwell County, the daughter of the late Horace Braswell and Julia Kelley Braswell.

Mertha retired from Walmart after managing the craft department for many years. In her earlier years, she owned and operated her own fabric shop, Sew’N’Save. She was a member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and crochet. She made the most beautiful Afghans in the world and gifted them to her family. She was an avid reader. Mertha loved her family, loved the Lord and was a wonderful role model, who raised her children on the word of God.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Biddy in 2013; her siblings, Lena Hall, Owen Braswell, Arnold Braswell, Kenneth Braswell, Harold Braswell, and Charles Braswell; and her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Biddy.

Those left to cherish and honor Mertha’s memories include her son, Earl Biddy; her daughters, Kathy Roberts, Patty Young (Walt), Pam Johnson (Stan), and Sonya White (Kevin); her grandchildren, Kevin, Tara, Erica, Aaron, Logan, Mindy, Ryan, Jonah, Cameron, and Ella; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Homer Biddy (Renee); sister-in-law, Ann Mecimore; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Taylorsville City Cemetery. Pastor Kevin White will officiate.
