Earl Eugene “Gene” Harris Jr., 77, of Stony Point, N.C., went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 18, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House after an extended illness. He was born on May 15, 1948, in Catawba County to the late Earl Eugene Harris Sr. and Anne Marie Abbott.

Gene enjoyed fishing and time with family, he loved reading and studying his Bible, and going to Freedom Baptist Church in Hiddenite, and was considered a road master in road construction work in his career.

Gene was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Edward Harris, and his sister, Patricia Ann Reese.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife Nancy Jane Forsyth Harris of the home; his four sisters, Linda Faye of Lincolnton, Vanessa Diane Starnes of Hildebran, Eva Marie Wankel and husband Mark of Stony Point, and Annette Marie Abbott of Charlotte; and his aunt Alice Faye Pope of Newton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Freedom Baptist Church in Hiddenite on February 1, 2026, occurring between 2 and 3 p.m. Dr. Sam Vallini will be officiating the celebration.
