John Walker Piet, 76, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026. He was born in Baltimore, Md., on May 12, 1949, to the late Francis and Anna Wagoner Piet.

At the age of 18, he proudly joined the U.S. Marine Corps for four years, serving from 1968-1972. After the Marines, he had a career driving a semi-truck all over the United States and Canada. In 1984, he married the love of his life, and together they raised two daughters and made many wonderful memories.

He donated funds each month to Tunnel to Towers, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Wounded Warriors, and Shriners Hospital for Children. He always tried to give back whenever he could.

John was a member of Community Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. The most important thing to him was putting God first in his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend, and was loved by many and will be truly missed.

John is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Piet; daughters, Amy Dixon and Dawn Raines; grandchildren, Tyler Hood, Chelsie Raines, Alexis Raines, and Levi Dixon; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Cassidy Hood, Allena and Makenzie Bowman, Waylon, Waydon, and Weston Raines, and Nova Allen.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 7, from 2 to 3 p.m. with a service with military honors following at 3 p.m. at Community Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Smith and Rev. Rex Ware officiating.

In lieu of flowers, a www.gofundme.com campaign has been set up honoring our dad, a Marine, and man of God.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Piet family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
