Allen Lee Lapish, 74, of Statesville, N.C., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 3, 2026, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, after a courageous battle with cancer. Allen was born on December 29, 1951, to the late Raymond Lee Lapish and wife Betty.
Allen was a proud Greyhound, attending Statesville Senior High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Jill Mills Lapish, on July 1, 1972. In addition to working many years in the furniture industry at Bernhardt, he retired from Haldex Barnes Hydraulics on October 2, 2010, as a Materials Manager.
After retirement, he went “off to college,” almost completing his associate degree from Mitchell Community College. Allen was a devoted member of Rose Chapel Methodist Church in Statesville, where he worshipped, volunteered, and spent time sharing the love of Christ with his community. As a longtime friend of Bill W., Allen was profoundly grateful for his 35 years of sobriety, which he celebrated one day at a time.
The quiet, steady, constant for his family was known affectionately by many names, including Oop, Allen, Daddy, and Poppie. He could make you belly laugh with witty one-liners and spot dropped pocket change at five paces. His love for coffee and desserts was unmatched. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and traveling with his wife, especially visits to any beach, where he would listen to the waves and feel the sunshine until the sun went down. However as an avid Tar Heel, and one of his favorite pastimes was cheering on Carolina, either in-person or from the edge of his recliner.
Allen was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Dean Lapish, and infant twin sisters, Janet Elaine Lapish and Janice Delaine Lapish.
Allen is survived by his devoted wife Jill, and son, Gregory Lee Lapish (Stephanie Gardner) of the home; his daughter, Leigh Anne Lapish Satterwhite and husband Adam of Wake Forest; his sister, Melissa Lapish Poteat and husband Kenny of Statesville; and eight loving grandchildren, Sarah Christine Lapish, Kayleigh Marie Lapish, Jackson Lee Lapish, Holland Marie Satterwhite, Graham Everett Satterwhite, Bennett Reid Satterwhite, Lillie Fraser Satterwhite, and Isla Grace Satterwhite.
A funeral will be held at Rose Chapel Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Gary Camp officiating. Friends and family will be received directly after the service in the downstairs Fellowship Hall.
Memorials may be made to the Rice and Bean Ministry of Rose Chapel Methodist Church, 813 Turnersburg Highway, Statesville, NC 28625, or Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
