
Mrs. Glenda Lou Vanhoy, 83, of Harmony, N.C., passed away at Iredell Memorial Hospital on Friday, February 6, 2026. Glenda was born on November 4, 1942, to the late James T. Gentle and Ina Gentle.
She attended Statesville High School. On June 11, 1960, she married Thomas Dewey Vanhoy, and they were married for 58 years until his passing on January 1, 2018. Glenda worked for Jockey International for 13 years before retiring. She loved her cats, Tiger and Bella, but her dog, Ms. Bailey, stole her heart. She loved traveling to different places with her daughter-in-law, Rita. She also loved reading books, and watched her hummingbirds swarm her windows and porches. She enjoyed cross-stitching and sewing. She also enjoyed collecting frogs and turtles. She enjoy spending time with her grandbabies and great-grandbabies.
In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by two brothers, Lary Gentle and Cecil Gentle; and two sisters, Helen Lamberth, and Jazel Gerley.
She is survived by one son, Clay Vanhoy (Rita) of Statesville; three daughters, Sherry Vanhoy of Harmony, Melissa Billings (Scott) of Traphill, and Kristal Vanhoy (BJ) of Lansing; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The viewing will be at Nicholson Funeral Home on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and the service will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 in the Chapel at Nicholson Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with Reverend Brian Wiles and Reverend Logan Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Harmony Community Cemetery.
