David Hugh McDonald, 72, went home to be with the Lord on April 22, 2023. He leaves behind dear friends and a much beloved family. He will be greatly missed by the many lives he touched with his guidance, stories, bright smile, and witness for Christ.

David was born in Statesville, N.C., on September 5, 1951. He was the only child of Richard Hugh McDonald and Gladys Waugh McDonald.

David graduated from Statesville Senior High in 1969 then attended Catawba Valley Technical Institute to obtain an associate degree in electronics. After his graduation, he married Kathy Marlowe of Troutman, N.C. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 3, 2022.

David and Kathy welcomed their daughter Kimberly in 1974 and their son Douglas in 1980.

David worked in the electronics field. He retired from the N.C. State Highway Patrol radio shop, where he worked for Troop F in Hickory and then later Troop E and Salisbury.

David was known for serving his community, church, and family. He served as Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 335 in Hickory, N.C., from 1992 until 2000. He was a beloved husband, attentive father, and loving son. David served Christ at Highland Methodist Church, Hickory N.C., and then at Christ Church – Statesville Campus as well as the Emmanuel Emmaus Community.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Richard Hugh McDonald, and his mother, Gladys Waugh McDonald.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Marlowe McDonald; son, Douglas McDonald; daughter, Kimberly McDonald-Perry; daughter-in-law, Francine Perry; bonus son, Josh Cutshaw; niece, Laura Martin; and cousins, Kent Waugh, Wesley Waugh, and Danny Aldridge.

A service to celebrate David’s life will be held at Christ Church – Statesville Campus, 2172 Wilkesboro Highway, Statesville NC 28625 on Thursday April 27, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. with the receiving of friends after the service until 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Celebrate Recovery – Christ Church Northside, 2350 Springs Road NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
