FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Statesville City Council has scheduled a public hearing for Monday to consider a plan to finance construction of a new municipal services building in the vicinity of 1809 Shelton Avenue.

The proposal calls for financing up to $11 million to pay for acquiring, constructing and equipping the facility, which would be used as headquarters for the Statesville Police Department. The council recently scrapped plans to include a new fire station and space for Iredell County EMS in the facility.

The council will also consider awarding construction contracts for the project and the realignment of Amity Hill Road, which is part of the plan approved earlier by the council.

The council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in Council Chambers in City Hall, 227 South Center Street.

In other business, the council is scheduled to:

♦ Consider a request from the Downtown Statesville Development Corporation to close Court Street on Saturday, November 30, between 5 and 7:30 p.m. for the annual Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.

Present a proclamation to long-time downtown business owner Gloria Hager.

Consider a request from the Statesville Police Department to purchase additional Tasers.

Consider the approval of one bucket truck with a 60-foot, fully hydraulic arm for $292,630 from Altec through Sourcewell joint purchasing contract and $2,011 for tax and tag, for a grand total of $294,641.
