Republicans Melissa Neader and Scottie Brown secured four-year terms on the Iredell County Board of Commissioners in Tuesday’s general election, and incumbent Republican Gene Houpe won a two-year term.

The three Republicans were unopposed for three seats on the five-member board.

Neader received 63,036 votes, Brown garnered 60,774 votes and Houpe tallied 56,230.

Based on unofficial results, a total of 101,638 ballots were cast in Iredell County, meaning 77.71 percent of the county’s 130,794 registered voters participated in the election.

Here’s how Iredell voted in the other major local races:

I-SS Board of Education

In the race for the District 4 seat on the Iredell-Statesville Board of Education, Republican Doug Knight defeated incumbent Democrat Chuck Gallyon. Knight garnered 5,046 votes, while Gallyon tallied 4,080.

In the other I-SS races, District 2 representative Wiliam Howell and District 6 representative Charles Kelly were uncontested and won new terms. 

N.C. General Assembly

NC Senate – District 34: Republican Sen. Vickie Sawyer easily held onto her seat, defeating Democrat Barry Templeton by nearly 50,000 votes. Sawyer garnered 83,036 votes, and Templeton received 33,777 votes.

NC House – District 84: Republican Rep. Jeff McNeely claimed a comfortable victory as he received 29,406 votes and Democrat Gayle Wesley Harris tallied 13,085 votes.

NC House – District 95: Republican Grey Mills won the seat currently held by Rep. John Fraley. Mills received 36,210 votes and easily defeated Democrat Amanda Brown Kotis, who received 18,835 votes.
