Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies seized crystal methamphetamine and arrested two suspects on drug charges during a traffic stop on Sunday, January 3.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrests of Eugenio Mata Carbajal, 27, of Statesville and Amanda Christine Wolowitz, 26, of Charlotte in a news release on Tuesday.

Deputies assigned to the ICSO Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team began investigating after stopping a vehicle at the intersection of Scotts Creek Road and Old Wilkesboro Road, north of Statesville, for a traffic violation on Sunday, Campbell said.

After speaking with Carbajal about the traffic violation, the deputies determined his license was revoked, according to the news release.

Based on additional evidence, the deputies conducted a search the vehicle and located three plastic bags containing crystal methamphetamine, Campbell said.

Carbajal and Wolowitz were arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where they were charged with Felony Possession with Intent to Sale or Deliver Methamphetamine, Felony Maintain a Vehicle for Sale or Use of Controlled Substance, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Carbajal was also charged with Driving While License Revoked, Reckless Driving and Speeding.

Magistrate Thompson issued Carbajal a $50,000 secured bond. Wolowitz received a $7,500 secured bond.
