Statesville-based Children’s Homes of Iredell County has been selected as a Lowe’s Hometowns project, one of 100 community-nominated, large-scale renovations that will revitalize nonprofit and community spaces serving as hubs and heartbeats for hometowns.

Now in its fourth year, Lowe’s Hometowns is the company’s five-year, $100 million commitment to repairing and restoring millions of square feet of community space.

The $95,000 grant awarded to Children’s Homes of Iredell County will play a pivotal role in changing the trajectory of young adults aging out of foster care. The grant will support the renovation of a transitional living home, adding three bedrooms, a kitchenette, and an additional bathroom to better serve residents.

This project goes beyond simply providing shelter—it creates a foundation for independence by equipping these individuals with essential life skills, including financial literacy, emotional regulation, and job readiness. While the full community impact is impossible to quantify, the potential is profound.

This program may help shape future educators, innovators, or leaders—and at the very least, it offers young people a real chance at stable, self-sufficient lives. By preparing them for adulthood, we reduce long-term societal costs associated with homelessness, unemployment, and mental health challenges. Ultimately, this initiative supports a stronger, more resilient community where everyone has the chance to thrive.

With help from Lowe’s red vest associates, across the country, Lowe’s Hometowns projects will help expand kitchen and serving capacity for food pantries, restore dignity to well-used transitional housing facilities, revitalize parks and gardens for neighbors to safely gather and build restorative spaces for first responders to rest between calls.

Earlier this year, Lowe’s announced a promise to deliver 10 million square feet of impact to capture the immeasurable difference made when Lowe’s shows up to help, including initiatives like Lowe’s Hometowns.
