Crosby Scholars of Iredell County is kicking off its 10th year of supporting local students.

The nonprofit assists students in public middle and high schools to prepare for college academically and financially. Workshops, career exploration, and scholarship opportunities are just a few things offered.

On August 1, the nonprofit held its first Freshman Academy. Rising Iredell-Statesville Schools sixth-graders and high school freshman attended an informative day that included helpful tips, community service, and fellowship.

Executive Director Jennifer Christian enthusiastically encouraged the students to do their best in school. She shared tips for better study habits, calculating GPA, and using time wisely.

“You guys have a fresh start this year,” Christian said. “You have the opportunity to increase your GPA.”

The students completed community service hours and met their yearly requirements by volunteering for local nonprofit Bella’s Backpacks.

Founder Isabella DiFiore brought in empty backpacks for Crosby participants to fill with needed supplies.

Open House

Crosby Scholars is hosting an open house on September 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Goodwill Career Center, located at 124 Fourth Crescent Place in Statesville. Interested students and their parents are invited to attend.
