Crosby Scholars of Iredell County will welcome new and returning students on Tuesday, September 16, during the organization’s annual open house. This year’s gathering takes place as the college access program celebrates its 10th anniversary of supporting student success.
“We’re excited to reconnect with our current Crosby Scholars and welcome new students for the 2025-2026 school year,” said Jennifer Christian, executive director of Crosby Scholars of Iredell County. “Each new school year is a new opportunity to prepare these students for what comes after middle and high school.”
The open house will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Goodwill Career Center, located at 124 Fourth Crescent Street in Statesville. Free hot dogs from G4G Ministries and ice cream from Mister Softee will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. only.
Attendees can learn about Crosby Scholars’ programs and resources. Representatives from community partner organizations that provide support and volunteer opportunities for students will be available. Students will also be able to pick up their 2025-26 Crosby Scholars T-shirt.
During the 2024-2025 school year, more than 1,500 middle and high school students from across Iredell County took advantage of Crosby Scholars’ free programs. Offerings include student academies to help improve academic skills, SAT and ACT prep sessions, and “Try It Tuesday” sessions to learn about local, accessible career options and the education needed to make those careers a reality.
Crosby Scholars also offers college tours to enable students to experience campus life and envision a future that includes higher education. One-on-one financial advising and scholarship opportunities help make that future possible.
“Choosing a career, understanding the educational requirements, and accessing the necessary financial aid can be very intimidating for students and parents,” said Christian. “Crosby Scholars guides families through that process, ensuring they have the information and resources they need. We love seeing students reach their full potential.”
Students must attend one academy session each year to remain active in the program. They must also maintain their GPA and complete at least two hours of community service. Opportunities to complete these requirements are offered several times throughout the school year, with in-school options for most students.
Those not able to attend the Open House can register as a new Crosby Scholar at www.crosbyscholarsiredell.org. Crosby Scholars staff will also visit area middle and high schools for student registrations. New registrations are open for sixth- through 10th-graders, though benefits continue through graduation and beyond.
The following organizations will have representatives present at the open house:
· The Christian Mission
· FeedNC
· Iredell Health Foundation
· Iredell Public Library
· Mooresville Public Library
· Mooresville Youth Leadership
· Rescue Ranch
· Teen Court Piedmont Mediation
· United Way – HIVE
