Personnel assigned to Mooresville Fire Rescue Ladder 6 were working at a community service event on Mazeppa Road and Oliphant Road when they heard a loud boom about 12:04 p.m. on Thursday.
A passerby notified the firefighters about vehicle that driven off the Overhead Bridge Road bridge and onto the railroad tracks more than 20 feet below.
Some firefighters ran to the scene, while others responded in the ladder truck. Mooresville Fire Rescue Engine 4, Iredell County EMS and Mooresville Police also responded to the scene.
Ladder 6 crews helped the driver out of the pickup truck and up the steep embankment. The driver, who was not physically injured, was evaluated at the scene by EMS.
The railroad company was notified about the incident and a train was stopped a short distance away.
A representative from the railroad and the N.C. Department of Transportation also responded to evaluate the railroad tracks for possible and the guard rail.
Overhead Bridge Road was closed in both directions while two tow trucks pulled the vehicle up the steep ledge and removed it from the scene.
