Statesville City Council candidate Todd Lange announced Thursday afternoon that he had withdrawn from the Ward 5 race and will instead seek an at-large seat in the 2025 municipal election.

“After careful thought and conversations with voters and other civic leaders across the city, I’ve decided to broaden my focus and run for an at-large seat,” Lange said. “While I originally filed to represent Ward 5, I’ve come to believe that my experience, leadership, and perspective can serve the entire city at this important moment of transition.

“There are several highly capable and committed candidates running for the Ward 5 seat, and I believe the residents of that ward will be well-served by the strong choices before them,” he added. “This decision allows me to contribute in a way that strengthens leadership across all of Statesville — ensuring that every resident has a voice and a seat at the table.”
