Shelton Moore has announced his candidacy for the Ward 5 seat on the Statesville City Council, pledging bold and inclusive leadership and a fresh perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing the community.

With nearly 15 years of dedicated service in the nonprofit sector, Moore has worked tirelessly to support youth, teens, job seekers, individuals involved in the justice system, people experiencing homelessness, and seniors from all walks of life. These experiences have shaped his deep passion for advocacy and reinforced his commitment to leadership grounded in integrity, accountability, and fiscal responsibility.

“I believe these values — along with a profound understanding of our community’s needs — position me to help guide Statesville toward its full potential as a true All-American City, one that celebrates diversity, culture, and opportunity for every resident,” Moore said in his official campaign announcement.

If elected, Moore plans to focus on a clear set of priorities to improve quality of life in Ward 5 and throughout Statesville, including:

● Economic development, with a focus on expanding retail, restaurants, and hotel opportunities;
● Creating and expanding employment opportunities that lift all residents;
● Infrastructure improvements, including roads, public works, and transportation enhancements;
● Housing solutions that are affordable and sustainable; and
● Promoting transparent, accountable governance rooted in service and community values

“Statesville has the ability to preserve its small-town charm while building a vibrant local economy that benefits both residents and visitors,” Moore added. “While we honor the work of those who came before us, it is time for bold transformation to ensure our city remains a place we are all proud to call home.”
