Mooresville Fire – Rescue and Shepherds Fire – Rescue, along with N.C. Forest Service personnel, extinguished a grass and woods fire encompassing more than two acres on Thursday.

The fire, which was reported about 2:08 p.m., was caused by careless open burning on Sorrel Lane, officials said. The fire was brought under control in about 25 minutes, but firefighters remained on the scene hitting hotspots well after that. It was one of several grass and woods fires reported across Iredell County.
