Piedmont HealthCare Director of Operations Melissa Haines has become a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE).

ACMPE is the certification entity of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). Fellowship in ACMPE’s industry-leading program demonstrates mastery and expertise in the profession of medical practice management.
“We are incredibly proud of Melissa for achieving Fellowship status with the American College of Medical Practice Executives,” said Jeffrey Smith, CEO of Piedmont HealthCare and both past and incoming MGMA Board chair. “She brings an outstanding level of knowledge, energy, and insight to everything she does, and this recognition reflects the meaningful impact she has at Piedmont HealthCare and across the broader medical practice community.”
To achieve Fellowship, Haines first earned the Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) designation by passing rigorous examinations that assess knowledge of the broad scope of medical practice management, as outlined in the Body of Knowledge for Medical Practice Management. This includes business operations, financial management, human resources management, information management, organizational governance, transformative healthcare delivery, quality management and risk management. In addition, Haines completed a minimum of 50 continuing education credit hours to achieve CMPE status. To earn Fellowship, Haines demonstrated leadership, innovation, and professional engagement in the healthcare industry and the advancement of the medical group management profession.
Haines has been with Piedmont HealthCare for nearly 16 years, serving in a variety of management roles that sharpened her operational expertise and leadership skills. As director of operations, she is known for her ability to optimize workflows, strengthen physician and employee relations, and lead with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach. Outside of work, Haines has taught in the Medical Assisting program at Mitchell Community College for six years and is actively involved in her community through Yokefellow Ministries, the Carolina BalloonFest volunteer program, and in her local church’s music ministry where she plays the keyboard.
MGMA is comprised of more than 70,000 members, with only about 6,600 who have attained CMPE or ACMPE Fellow status, or are actively pursuing certification.
