Iredell-Statesville Schools Superintendent Jeff James on Wednesday announced the appointment of Nic Allen as the new principal of Lake Norman High School.

Allen, who currently serves as principal at Harmony Elementary School and was recently named I-SS principal of the year, will succeed Bill Shapcott, who is retiring.

“It’s an honor to become a part of the Lake Norman High School community,” Allen said. “The school’s renowned culture of success is truly inspiring, and I’m committed to partnering with our dedicated staff, talented students, and supportive community to maintain that excellence and achieve even greater things together.”

An experienced educator, Allen has served as a social studies teacher, administrative intern, instructional facilitator, and assistant principal. Before working in public schools, he worked served in a variety of leadership roles for several furniture companies in North Carolina and Florida.

Allen holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, a master’s degree in teaching from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and two graduate certificates—one in instructional systems technology and the other in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Superintendent James said he is excited for Allen to take on this role.

“The job drew interest from top-tier candidates, making it one of the most competitive positions in the district,” James said. “We always make sure we have input from our school and the community that is used in helping guide the decision. Mr. Allen has done an exceptional job at Harmony Elementary. His background makes him an ideal selection for the school.”

Allen will begin his new position on July 7.
