Charlton L. Allen, an Iredell County attorney and mediator, has been nominated by President Donald J. Trump to serve as general counsel of the Federal Labor Relations Authority.
Allen, who practiced law in both Statesville and Mooresville, said it was a “tremendous honor” to be nominated by President Trump.
“The position carries important responsibilities for ensuring fairness, accountability, and efficiency across the federal workforce, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the public in this capacity,” he said. “Having lived in Iredell County and practiced law here, I deeply appreciate the support and encouragement of this community.”
The Federal Labor Relations Authority is an independent federal agency that governs labor-management relations for approximately 2.1 million federal employees. The Office of the General Counsel serves as the agency’s investigative and prosecutorial arm, overseeing regional operations and providing training and guidance to federal agencies and labor organizations nationwide.
The nomination was received by the U.S. Senate on September 30 and referred to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
Allen is the former chairman and chief executive officer of the North Carolina Industrial Commission. In that capacity, he led landmark reforms to reduce opioid abuse, modernize government processes, and achieve substantial taxpayer savings. During his tenure, North Carolina saw a multi-year decline in workers’ compensation insurance rates totaling more than 40 percent in aggregate reductions—one of the largest in state history—reflecting improved efficiency and reduced claim costs.
Allen, who previously served two terms as chairman of the Iredell County Republican Party, is the host of “The Modern Federalist” podcast.
