Iredell County officials are warning residents about a scam email circulating that falsely claims to be from the County and asks individuals to wire transfer funds as part of a rezoning request.
County officials want to make it clear: This email is not legitimate.
All official communications from the County will come from email addresses ending in @iredellcountync.gov, and no zoning or planning fees are ever requested via email or wire transfer. All application fees must be paid in person through the proper County offices.
“We take resident safety seriously and want to ensure the public is aware of this scam,” said Director for Planning and Development Matthew Todd. “If you receive an email that seems suspicious, please do not respond or send any money. Contact our office directly to verify.”
Residents who have received the scam email are encouraged to report it to the Iredell County Information Technology Services at 704-878-3063.
