The Iredell County Public Library will host the grand unveiling of its new Mobile Library, a state-of-the-art vehicle designed to bring library services directly to communities across Iredell County. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on September 15 at 2 p.m. at the main Iredell County Public Library branch at 201 North Tradd Street in Statesville.
The public is invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate this addition to the Iredell County Public Library system. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Mobile Library and learn more about its features and schedule.
The event will be attended by library staff, Iredell County leadership, and Rep. Jeff McNeely, whose support and advocacy were instrumental in securing funding through the State Capital and Infrastructure Fund (SCIF) for this project.
This mobile library aims to provide greater access to educational resources, technology, and community programs, particularly in underserved and rural areas.
Outreach Librarian Grace Schermerhorn expressed excitement about the potential impact of the Mobile Library.
“The folks who struggle to get to the library tend to be the ones who need our services the most, and our new Mobile Library will be able to bring the library to them,” she said. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of such a wonderful endeavor, and I look forward to serving our Iredell County community!”
The Mobile Library is equipped with a diverse collection of books, materials specifically for adults wanting to improve literacy skills, and technology, including Wi-Fi access. It will visit schools, community centers, and other locations on a rotating schedule, ensuring that library services are within reach for everyone in the County.
In addition to SCIF funding, this project was supported by grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
