Iredell Memorial Hospital’s emergency department has been named an Accredited Geriatric Emergency Department by the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Geriatric Emergency Departments (GEDs) are suited to cater to the specific needs, presentations and dispositions of older adults. Benefits include lower return visits, greater market share, improved patient experience, fewer admissions, decreased inpatient length-of-stay, and higher staff morale.
“Achieving geriatric accreditation is a promise to the community to deliver compassionate, specialized care for every older adult who walks through our doors,” said Rhonda Ruppe, Iredell Memorial Hospital’s emergency department director. “Today, we celebrate excellence, and the future of emergency medicine.”
The GED program was implemented by The American College of Emergency Physicians with support from The Gary and Mary West Health Institute and John A. Hartford Foundation to recognize emergency departments across the United States who demonstrate excellent care for senior adults.
This accreditation signifies Iredell Health’s ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of the entire community, no matter an individual’s demographic. It’s just one of the ways the organization shares its commitment to Inspire Wellbeing — Together.
