N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will be installing lane closures on Interstate 77 next week to begin work on a new bridge at the interchange with N.C. Highway 150.
The closures are part of the $249 million N.C. 150 widening project between N.C. 16 in Catawba County and U.S. 21/N.C. 150 in Mooresville, and an improved interchange with I-77.
Starting Monday, July 14, crews will permanently close the right lanes on I-77 in both directions approaching N.C. 150, shifting traffic to the inside lanes. Drivers can expect nightly closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Two travel lanes will be maintained in both directions along with access to and from N.C. 150.
The first phase will focus on building additional lanes to accommodate eastbound traffic. The second phase will add lanes for westbound traffic. The final phase will complete the transition to a 160-foot-wide structure featuring ten travel lanes, tying in the bridge to the existing roadway, and removing the existing bridge.
These corridor improvements will accommodate current and future traffic volumes and ease congestion.
Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
Can’t wait for the ridiculous and angry comments to begin!
I see when it’ll start, but when will the project be complete?
I think it’s going to be great for Mooresville as an up and coming city. At the present time, Mooresville’s growth has exceeded its infrastructure.
Ten lanes? That’s going to be fun for insurance companies. Oh well, guess it is needed. But hope it will be done before 2035.
