The Mooresville Graded School District ranked 13th out of 115 North Carolina public school districts in 2024-2025 based on academic performance data released Wednesday by the N.C. State Board of Education and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
The latest data shows significant student growth and a high graduation rate, demonstrating the district’s commitment to academic excellence with multiple schools exceeding growth expectations and no schools designated as low-performing.
For the 2024-2025 academic year, MGSD achieved a graduation rate of over 95%, ranking among the top school districts in North Carolina for this key metric. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of students, staff, and families in preparing graduates for success in college, careers, and the military.
“These results are a powerful reflection of the hard work and partnership between our students, teachers, staff, and the Mooresville community,” said MGSD Superintendent Jason Gardner. “We are incredibly proud of our students for their accomplishments and our educators for their relentless pursuit of excellence. We intend to continue building on this success, as we know that strong public schools are the backbone of a thriving community.”
The district’s dedication to fostering student growth was particularly evident at the intermediate and middle school levels. Mooresville Middle School, Mooresville Intermediate School, and East Mooresville Intermediate School all exceeded growth expectations set by the state, reflecting a strong commitment to individualized student support and effective instructional strategies.
MGSD is proud to report that for the 2024-2025 school year, none of its schools were designated as low-performing by the state. This accomplishment underscores the district-wide focus on providing a high-quality, rigorous education in every classroom, ensuring that all students have the resources and support they need to succeed.
Highlights
Other noteworthy accomplishments for MGSD include:
♦ The only district in the region with no low performing schools.
♦ Overall district state ranking improved from 20th to 13th out of 115 school districts in the state.
♦ Mooresville Middle School, East Mooresville Intermediate School, and Mooresville Intermediate school are the top three schools in Iredell County (charter and traditional) for academic growth. All three schools are also in the top 3% for academic growth in the state.
♦ Mooresville Middle School’s math growth is ranked 5th in the state out of over 2,000 schools.
♦ Mooresville Intermediate School improved its school performance grade by 10 points moving from a C to a B grade.
♦ Selma Burke Middle School improved their school performance grade by 10 points moving from a D to a C grade.

♦ 8th grade math ranked 3rd in the state;
♦ 4th grade math ranked 4th in the state; and
♦ 7th grade math ranked 7th in the state
Reading Highlights
♦ 4th grade reading ranked 6th in the state; and
♦ 5th grade reading ranked 9th in the state
