Motorists who travel a portion of West Lowrance Avenue in Mooresville will notice new signage and a reduced speed limit in the coming days.
The Town Board of Commissioners passed a resolution on June 2 authorizing the new 25 mph speed limit.
On Thursday, new speed limit signs are scheduled to be installed along the stretch of West Lowrance Avenue. The entire length of the road will now have the same speed limit.
In response to residents’ safety concerns related to the speed of traffic on West Lowrance Avenue, town staff conducted a speed and traffic study. Mooresville Police Department personnel also assisted in evaluation and held a community meeting to gather feedback.
The results of these assessments supported a need to reduce the speed limit on the portion of West Lowrance Avenue between Norman Drive and W. Wilson Avenue that was 35 mph, and increase public education and future enforcement efforts.
Aligned with the Town’s Strategic Plan and the Town’s Vision Zero Plan, the Town of Mooresville continues to work to improve overall pedestrian safety, walkability, and accessibility into Downtown.
