Personnel from Mooresville, Shepherds, South Iredell and Mount Mourne fire departments were alerted for a structure fire on Cornelius Road in Mooresville at 6:21 a.m. Tuesday.

Responding units reported heavy fire coming from the rear of the structure and a working fire was transmitted. All occupants of the structure were accounted for as crews made an aggressive interior attack on the fire as additional crews searched the structure and stretched more hose lines.

The structure was heavily damaged, and the Red Cross was notified to assist the occupant of the structure. The fire was declared under control at 6:59 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Cornelius Road was closed in both directions for about two hours, causing major delays for the morning commute.
