Special to IFN

The Mooresville-Lake Norman Rotary Club honored three of its newer members, Ann Nivens, Janice Blackley, and Richard Babb, with Paul Harris Fellow awards on Tuesday, October 21.

Paul Harris awards are usually an honor from Rotary International that recognizes individuals who contribute $1,000 or have a $1,000 or more donation made in their name to the Rotary International Foundation. Established in 1957, it is given in the name of the founder of Rotary, Paul Harris, for both Rotarians and non-Rotarians, for their significant contributions to the community or the world. Rotarians accumulate points for each dollar they contribute to Rotary International and may transfer these points to a person they believe lives by the virtues of Rotary.

Mooresville-Lake Norman members have accumulated thousands of points through the years so a decision was made to award its members in good standing and those who generously give of their time and money to its various causes, starting with recent members.

The club was thrilled it was able to hand out these awards in the presence of 2025-2026 Governor of Rotary District No. 7680 Donna Moffett and Assistant District Governor Eileen Solomon, who attended the Tuesday meeting as part of a tour of the district.

The club also awarded the District Governor a monetary gift towards Polio Plus, in honor of Polio World Awareness Day on October 24. Eradicating polio across the globe has been a goal of Rotary International for 35 years.

The Mooresville-Lake Norman club contributes to several local non-profits, including but not limited to FeedNC; HealthReach Community Clinic, the area’s only free medical clinic; Richard’s Coffee Shop & Military Museum supporting local veterans; STARS scholarships awarded to at-risk students to support education; CART, (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust); and PolioPlus, partnering with clubs worldwide to put the lid on polio once and for all.

Last year, the club also raised over $8,000 in donations, which were matched dollar for dollar by the district, for the Hurricane Relief efforts targeting western N.C.
