A Mooresville man faces assault and arson charges following an investigation by the Mooresville Police Department.

The MPD announced the arrest of Clayton Morrison Broyhill, 27, in a news release Monday afternoon.
Officers responded to a call about an active vehicle fire on July 24, along with the Mooresville Fire-Rescue and fire marshal’s office personnel. Investigators determined that the vehicle was intentionally set on fire by Broyhill, according to the news release. An individual who was in the vehicle when the fire was set was about to escape without serious injury, police said.
Warrants were subsequently obtained for Broyhill’s arrest.
On Monday, MPD detectives and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force attempted to serve these arrest warrants on Broyhill after confirming his location, according to the news release.
Law enforcement officers attempted to call Broyhill out of the residence, but he refused to comply and exit the residence. After the MPD Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were activated, Broyhill came out of the residence.
Broyhill was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, burning personal property, communicating threats, and misdemeanor domestic violence. After a search of the residence, Broyhill was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
He is being held at Iredell County Jail without bond.
