After arriving on the scene, officers located several spent shell casings in the middle of the road on Lark Glen Drive, according to an MPD news release.

During the ensuing investigation, detectives determined two males were walking along Lark Glen Drive towards Selma Drive when they were fired upon by two subjects who were lying in wait by another apartment building, police said.

Both males told detectives that they did not know who fired upon them and that they did not fire back, according to the news release. Both subjects stated that they ran back to an apartment on Lark Glen Drive after they were fired upon, police added.

While talking with both subjects near the apartment on Lark Glen Drive, officers detected a strong odor
of marijuana coming from the apartment, according to the news release.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and determined that one of the males had fired a weapon as he ran back to an apartment on Lark Glen Drive, police said. The male is under the age of 18 and is not allowed to possess a firearm.

MPD personnel then executed a search warrant the apartment on Lark Glen Drive, and three firearms were located inside, police said. One of the firearms was confirmed stolen, and another firearm was found to have the serial number altered, according to the news release.

During the investigation, detectives confirmed that the incident was gang-related due to documented gang members arriving at the incident location, police said.
