The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality is accepting public comments related to the Title V air qualify permit for Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company LLC – Station 150.
The modified permit would allow upgrades at the Transco’s compressor station in Mooresville as part of the company’s proposed natural gas pipeline project and potential increases in air pollution.
A public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on November 13 at the Lake Norman High School Auditorium, located at 186 Doolie Road in Mooresville.
“This hearing is required to discuss any potential air pollution as the result of upgrades to the compressor itself,” Assistant Town Manager Ryan Rase explained during Monday’s Town Board of Commissioners meeting.
For those who are unable to attend, comments can also be submitted by email to daq.publiccomments@deq.nc.gov with the subject line “Transco150.25A.” You may also leave a voicemail comment at 919-707-8714. Comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. on November 19.
Detour begins for NCDOT project
Rase also advised the town board on an NCDOT project that started November 3 at Linwood Road near Patterson Farm Road, where work to replace a bridge over Coddle Creek. The project has a signed detour around the closure using Tetter Road, NC Highway 152 and Patterson Farm Road. Construction is expected to be completed in the fall of 2026.
MPD therapy dog retires
Mooresville Police Chief Ron Campurciani announced the retirement of Ella, the Mooresville Police Department’s first therapy dog.
“Ella definitely left paw prints on our hearts,” he said. “She came to us in 2018 when our dispatcher, Tiffany Rivera, took her on as a personal therapy dog after working the night Officer Jordan Sheldon was killed. Rivera made the decision to share Ella with the rest of the department.”
Dressed in brightly colored costumes, Ella made appearances at the Citizens Academy and Heroes for Helpers events.
“She will definitely be missed,” the chief said.
Demolition work approved
The town board also voted to continue with the demolition process for a property located at 220 E. McNeely Avenue, but commissioners also agreed on an ordinance change that would allow the Historic Preservation Committee to step in and evaluate the property and approve needed repairs to possibly save the structure.
“Although we approved this ordinance, this process will take months so it’s not like it will happen in the next few days,” Mayor Chris Carney explained.
