A Taylorsville woman faces a misdemeanor charge in connection with a fatal crash on Interstate 77 in Iredell County on Saturday night.
According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, Emma Garwood, 22, has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed following an investigation of a crash that occurred about 10:20 p.m. Saturday on I-77 near mile marker 43.
Garwood was traveling north on I-77 when her vehicle crashed into a Dodge that had been pulled off the road following an earlier accident, troopers said. The Dodge then crashed into a Hyundai, which had also pulled over.
A passenger in Garwood’s vehicle, identified as Shane McCurdy, 18, of Kenly was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to the NCSHP.
The drivers of the Dodge and the Hyundai were transported to the hospital.
