Retired school administrator Boen Nutting has filed to run for the District 5 seat on the Iredell–Statesville Schools Board of Education. A 30-year advocate for public education in North Carolina, she said in her campaign announcement that strong public schools are essential to a thriving community.

Nutting retired in 2023 after serving as principal of Lake Norman Elementary and Mt. Mourne IB School and later as assistant superintendent of Iredell–Statesville Schools. She is currently an adjunct professor in the College of Education at Gardner-Webb University. She earned her Ed.D in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Nutting emphasized the importance of addressing the district’s need for new schools and land acquisition, while also strengthening collaboration among students, parents, educators, and community members.
“The success of a school district depends on excellent educators who feel supported, valued, and heard,” Nutting said. “We must celebrate what’s working while remaining focused on areas for improvement. By building trust—academically and financially—we can keep Iredell County a great place to raise a family.”
Nutting lives in Mooresville with her husband, Mike. Their two grown sons, Michael and Sam, attended both the Mooresville Graded School District and Iredell–Statesville Schools.
