Thanks to the generosity of the Grand Chapter of North Carolina, Order of the Eastern Star, Highland Canine Connect continues to transform the lives of several families through the gift of highly trained service dogs.

For years, the Order of the Eastern Star has shown steadfast dedication to this mission, designating service dogs as a permanent charitable cause. Their commitment reflects a deep belief in the power of partnership, compassion, and service, helping individuals gain greater independence, safety, and connection through the loyal support of a trained service animal.

Across North Carolina, chapters have rallied together through creative projects and community fundraisers, spreading awareness about the extraordinary impact of service dogs.

In 2024, the Order of the Eastern Star’s grant to Highland Canine Connect funded service dogs for five families, including four autism service dogs and one stability dog. In 2025, their continued generosity provided a service dog for a young girl with autism, giving her a trusted companion to help her grow in confidence and independence.

“The Eastern Star’s commitment to service dogs has a ripple effect far beyond the initial gift,” said Erin Purgason, founder of Highland Canine Connect. “Their generosity allows us to bring hope, freedom, and stability to families who might otherwise never have access to a service dog. Each partnership between dog and handler changes not just one life, but entire families and communities.”

Highland Canine Connect’s trainers and volunteers see this transformation every day. From children who find new comfort in social settings to adults who regain their mobility and confidence, these dogs are more than service animals; they are bridges to a fuller life.
