Participants in the Town of Troutman’s annual Jingle Run 5K did not let the bitter temperatures and wind affect their holiday spirit on Sunday afternoon as they ran or walked, decked out in their merriest attire, through the town as part of the annual holiday ritual.

Santa mingled with the crowd, posing for pictures and listening to children’s Christmas wishes before jumping on a golf cart to encourage runners along the route. The Troutman Elf on the Shelf and his Effette also posed for pictures and entertained the 219 registered participants prior to the race.

Michele Sparks sang the National Anthem before the event, which was officially timed by McLelland Racing Team. Fallstown Baptist Church provided oranges and treats, and Freedom Church provided coffee and hot chocolate to help stave off off the freezing temperatures.

Participants were asked to donate needed items to My Sister’s House, Iredell County’s domestic violence shelter, including pajamas of all sizes for women and children, women’s slippers, robes, scarves, mittens, toboggans, blankets, throws, and new unwrapped toys for all ages.

Other needs at the shelter include paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues), cleaning supplies, cold & flu medication, shampoo & conditioner sets, bottled water, juice boxes, soda, dark-colored towels, washcloths, and dish towels.

If community members still wish to donate to MSH during the holiday season, they make take these items to the Troutman Parks and Recreation office next to the ESC Park entrance.
