Piedmont HealthCare on Monday announced the appointment of Jake Clary as director of operations.

Clary has worked for Piedmont HealthCare since 2021, serving as office manager for Dr. Melissa Champe-Seagle’s internal medicine practice and as a clinical research coordinator, partnering with Innovo Research to oversee clinical studies based out of Mocksville. In these roles, he has demonstrated strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of the operational needs of a busy medical practice. His ability to build meaningful relationships with staff and patients, combined with his experience managing clinical research, has prepared him well for this next step.
“Jake brings valuable perspective and firsthand experience from within our organization,” said CEO Jeffrey Smith. “He understands our culture and our commitment to quality and patient-centered care. We’re confident he will continue to strengthen operations across all locations.”
Clary, who succeeds Melissa Haines as director of operations, graduated from Davidson College in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Environmental Studies. He also earned a master’s degree in Biology. Before finding his calling in healthcare administration, he explored a variety of fields, including zookeeping, before ultimately returning to medicine in an administrative capacity.
“Growing up in a medical family with a physician father and an RN mother, I’ve always been accustomed to the many joys and challenges that come with working in healthcare,” Clary shared. “I’ve been fortunate to grow within Piedmont HealthCare and work alongside incredible teams who care deeply about our patients and community. I’m honored to take on this new role and continue building on the strong foundation that’s been established.”
Clary is passionate about leadership and communication and looks forward to building new relationships across the organization.
“One of the things I value most about PHC is that patient care is central to all we do,” he said. “While we share the same core values across the organization, each practice has the flexibility to be successful in its own way. I’ve loved developing lifelong relationships with my co-workers at Dr. Seagle’s office and can’t wait to create more of those lasting connections throughout PHC.”
Outside of work, Jake and his wife Madeline enjoy traveling, spending time with their families, exploring North Carolina’s many outdoor activities, and visiting their favorite restaurants in Winston-Salem and Davidson.
Piedmont HealthCare also extended its appreciation to Haines for her leadership and years of dedicated service. She has accepted a position as chief operating officer at a nonprofit health care group in South Carolina.
