Special to IFN
The Statesville Pride Alliance invites residents and visitors to attend a joyful celebration of inclusivity, creativity and four-legged fun at the Pride Pet Pageant and Parade on Saturday, June 14. The event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Pasture Stage at The Historic Sharpe House, located at 402 S. Center Street in Statesville.
Check-in begins at 2:30 p.m. for pets and their owners.
The event, which is free to attend and participate in, offers an engaging way to celebrate Pride Month while supporting local animal rescue efforts. In lieu of an entry fee, attendees are encouraged to bring donations for a local animal adoption and fostering agency. Suggested donations include pet food, treats, toys, towels, blankets or monetary contributions.
The day will include a variety of activities, including the main event, the Pet Pageant in which pets will take center stage in a light-hearted competition featuring three categories: Cutest Pet, Most Creative Costume, and Proudest Pet (Pride Wear). Owners may register their pets in one, two, or all three categories.
While the judges are tallying the scores, attendees can join a colorful parade looping from The Historic Sharpe House Pasture Stage to the Downtown Statesville square and back. Participants are encouraged to decorate themselves and their pets in celebration of Pride and community spirit.
Throughout the event, guests can enjoy food from Statesville’s very own Dragon Dogs, along with tasty desserts from Yum Baking Company. There will be opportunities to shop with community vendors, take part in interactive booths, and meet adoptable animals from Bella Vita Animal Rescue. A special art booth by Mermade will offer pet-themed keepsakes, including paw print art. Everyone present will also have an opportunity to win door prizes throughout the day.
The event will feature a distinguished panel of local judges, including Mayor Costi Kutteh, Liz Petree, and Bob Barber. Their participation reflects strong community support for inclusivity, pet welfare and local events that bring residents together.
Several local businesses have also contributed to the festivities. Groomtime Pet Spa has donated gift certificates for a door prize drawing, and Crowning Events is providing cakes—both for you and your pet!! The Historic Sharpe House is generously hosting the event at the Pasture Stage. Another event sponsor, The Watering Hole, will have special event-themed products available prior to the event.
Pet owners wishing to participate must complete a registration form by this Friday, June, 6 via the Statesville Pride Alliance’s website. Early registration is encouraged as space may be limited.
Participants are advised to bring treats and waste bags to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all pets. Costumes and decorations should be pet-safe, weather-appropriate, and just plain fun and happy. All pets are required to have proof that they are up-to-date on vaccinations.
The Pride Pet Pageant and Parade aims to bring together individuals from all walks of life in a shared celebration of acceptance, love, and community while highlighting the important role pets play in our lives. Whether participating or spectating, community members are encouraged to come out and enjoy this unique and heartwarming event.
