Special to IFN

The Rotary Club of Greater Statesville recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Three founding members, Mark Wagner, Bill Wilson, and Dr. Curtis Abel, were honored at the event. All three have been actively involved in all aspects of the club for more than 50 years.

The club also presented Treasurer Anne Ellenburg and Sergeant-at-Arms Brad Johnson with the Service Above Self Award.

The club selected Maureen Moore as Rotarian of the Year for her service during the past year as the immediate past president and as a board member. She is the incoming assistant governor.

To cap the 50th-year celebration, President Todd Harkins announced that the club gave back over $70,000 to local organizations during the past Rotary year.

The Rotary Club of Greater Statesville meets on Thursdays at 12 noon at Twisted Oak. The Club welcomes anyone to attend a club meeting to learn more about Rotary and its service to the community.
