The City of Statesville Fire Department has deployed its new Hazardous Materials Response Apparatus, further enhancing the department’s ability to respond to hazardous materials incidents and safeguard the community.
The advanced vehicle, which is housed at Fire Station 4, was officially placed into service on May 30.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the new truck represents a major investment in public safety and emergency preparedness. It includes cutting-edge detection and monitoring systems, specialized containment tools, and upgraded personal protective equipment for responders—designed to address a wide range of emergencies, from chemical spills to industrial accidents.
“This new apparatus strengthens our ability to respond to hazardous materials emergencies with greater efficiency and safety,” said Deputy Fire Chief Kyle Bell. “With the increasing complexity of these incidents, this vehicle equips our team with the tools needed to mitigate risks and safeguard our community.”
Key features of the new Hazardous Materials Response Apparatus include:
♦ Real-time chemical detection and analysis systems;
♦ Advanced decontamination capabilities;
♦ Secure storage for specialized response equipment;
♦ Enhanced communication systems for inter-agency coordination; and
♦ Ergonomic design for rapid deployment and responder safety
City officials approved the purchase of a used apparatus to serve as the department’s Hazardous Materials Response Unit earlier this year. After undergoing repairs and refurbishments, the vehicle was prepared for service. Last week, personnel transferred equipment from the previous unit to the newly purchased apparatus.
